“The video showing the atrocity against women in Manipur is the most shameful. I am hurt and angry by the incident and I assure the people of the country that the culprits will not be pardoned and subjected to the most severe punishment.” PM mode saying.
“The Manipur incident has brought shame to all of humanity and 140 people in the core of the country feel ashamed. Whether in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan or Manipur, the dignity of women and girls is paramount and must be protected and I call on the chief ministers of all states to take the strongest possible action against criminals involved in atrocities against women,” Prime Minister Modi said in his address to the media before the start of the monsoon session of parliament
The video, which surfaced online Wednesday, shows two women from one of the warring communities being paraded naked by some men from the other side. The widely circulated video also shows men constantly harassing the two women. According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, that incident occurred in the Kangpokpi district on May 4.
Several opposition MPs have sent notices to Parliament demanding discussions on the situation in Manipur, which stems from a new controversy when a video of two women parading naked appeared and circulated widely.
Meanwhile, the Center has called on Twitter and other social media platforms to remove the video of the two Manipur women parading nude while the matter is investigated.
Manipur has witnessed violence since May 3, following protests by the Kuki and Naga communities against the High Court order asking the state government to consider listing the Meitei community under the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
